Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay to join?

No, CCU membership is completely free.

We believe in removing barriers to support and collaboration, so there are no dues or fees required to join our collective. Our focus is on amplifying Canadian TTRPG voices through shared resources and mutual promotion, not on generating revenue from our members. While there may be opportunities to voluntarily contribute to specific collective projects in the future, such as shared convention booth or marketing campaign, these will always be optional, transparent, and vetoed.

You will always retain 100% of the revenue from your own work. Our mission is to support each other, not to monetize our community.

How can the CCU be Non-Hierarchical?

We want the CCU to remain non-hierarchical, meaning no one will have authority over anyone else. Roles such as Facilitator or Treasurer (when they get implemented) will continue to be voluntary, rotating, and focused on coordination rather than command. Decisions will be made collectively, ideally by consensus, or by a simple majority if needed, and they will apply only to shared projects and resources.

At some point, we may need to establish a board for legal or administrative purposes. That board will not run the CCU. It will simply carry out the collective will of the members, serve as a point of contact, and handle practical requirements like finances or filings. In this way, the board will function as an administrative tool, not as a hierarchy.

Is my content protected?

Absolutely. CCU does not and will never own your TTRPG content or intellectual property. You retain full, exclusive ownership of all your original work, including games, settings, art, and writing. Our core value of Creator Autonomy is explicitly written into our charter to protect your rights.

The only exception would be for a project that is explicitly and voluntarily created together by multiple members under the CCU banner. In that rare case, a separate, written agreement, created and signed by everyone involved before the project begins, would outline any specific terms for IP ownership, revenue sharing, or responsibilities. Without such an agreement, your individual IP remains entirely and solely yours. CCU's role is to support and promote your work, not to claim it.

Is CCU remote-friendly?

Yes. CCU is designed to be fully remote-friendly and accessible to creators across Canada.

Our entire operational model is built around digital collaboration. From monthly virtual meetings and asynchronous discussions on platforms like Discord to co-managing shared resources and promoting each other's work online, all our core activities are conducted remotely.

This organization model allows everyone from across our country to participate, collaborate, and benefit from the collective without ever needing to travel.

While we may occasionally coordinate in-person meetups or convention booths for those interested, these are always optional.

Why do I have to be Canadian to join?

Our requirement for a demonstrable connection to the land colonially known as Canada is fundamental to our core mission. CCU was established specifically to amplify Canadian voices and address the unique challenges faced by TTRPG creators in Canada, such as access to domestic grants, tailored market support, and making their mark on a global industry.

Our resources, collaborations, and advocacy are precisely calibrated to empower the Canadian creative landscape.

While our foundation is Canadian, our outlook is global. We actively encourage and celebrate collaborations with international creators and partners. This allows us to uplift our members on the world stage while staying true to our purpose of strengthening the Canadian TTRPG community from within.
